Prolong the Beauty of Peaceful and Natural Way of Life
Ko Klang, Amphoe Mueang, Krabi

An undisturbed, simple way of life that has not been influenced by the modern trends is the onethat should be nurtured and cherished.
Ko Klang, which translates to “Middle Island”, derived its name from the location that is situated between the mouth of theKrabi River and the Andaman Sea. The idyllic and enchanting island provides a perfect getaway from the busy world of Krabi town in just a 10-minute long-tail boat ride.
The topography of Ko Klang comprises mainly of mangrove forests, with saltwater canals meandering through the island. The natural environment plays a vital part in enriching the cultural values and life of the people on the island. Ko Klang is a Muslim community where the people enjoy a simple and natural life engaging in coastal fishing, Sang Yot rice farming, producing miniature Hua Thong boats, and making Patehtextiles. The charm of Ko Klang, apart from the people and their culture, is that the island is car-free and the local people commute by bicycles, motorbikes, and skylabs (motorbike with asidecar).
Ko Klang is a great example of a community that lives a slow-paced way of life in perfect harmony with nature. Visitors are invited to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life for a moment and spend time immersing in the beauty of living a slow life amidst the nature with the friendly locals. The countless contributions you can make to help prolong this precious way of life will then come to you, naturally.

ABOUT Ko Klang’s Sang Yot Rice
Sang Yot rice farming makes a significant contribution to Ko Klang’s economy and even though this rice variety originated from Phatthalung province, Sang Yot rice produced at Ko Klang has a distinctive flavour that differs from thatcultivated in its origin. The saltwater that surroundsthe island provides the soil in the rice paddies with ahigh salinity content, creating a unique salty taste to the rice. Using atraditional rice farming method, the farmers at Ko Klang grow Sang Yot rice organically and therefore producehigh quality and chemical-free rice. Sang Yot rice is very nutritious,as it contains antioxidants and is high in fibre. Once cooked, the long and slim grains with adark red colour become fragrant and delicious. Sang Yot rice wastraditionally cooked only during special occasions or given as asouvenir for important guests, but nowadays it is consumed by the locals as well as health-conscious people who have learnedof its excellent quality.

Shallow Water Fishing
Shallow water fishing at Ko Klang is done when the fishermen place a giant V-shaped fish trap in the sea, where the fish will be caught in the dense fishing nets at the base of the trap during high tide. Once the water recedes, the fishermen walk to the fish trap and collect the fish that are caught. Visitors can explore this traditional fishing technique by accompanying the fishermen to the fish traps.

Clam Digging
Another unique experience when visiting Ko Klang is to join the locals in the clam digging activity. Clam digging takes place on the beach at low tide, and diggers carry a bucket in one hand and a shovel or a wood dowel in the other. All they need is just good observation when looking for the holes in the sand, many years of practicefor not breaking the shells when digging, and luck in finding the giant clams.

Mangrove Reforestation
The locals work hard together to conserve the mangrove swamps, which play a valuable role in the coastal ecosystem of Ko Klang.
