Ban Muang Pam

Ban Muang Pam is a small village of Paka-Kyaw villagers that rely and live on their own. Upon arrival, travelers will immediately notice the unique identity of Paka-Kyaw people on their outfits. What’s more important is that these villagers’ outfits are handwoven by each family according to the local wisdom. Hence, travelers will learn interesting processes from dyeing fabrics with natural dyes from fruits or tree barks, weaving, to embroidering with the job’s tear seeds, which are decorative items from nature. Other local ways of life that still revolve around nature and local wisdom are, for instance, treating illness with herbs from natural forest, rotational farming, terraced rice cultivation, and handicrafts such as carvings and wickerwork that are used as everyday appliances.

With self-reliant principles applied at almost every stage of life,  the locals here have a great respect for themselves and the surrounding nature that enable them to subsist every day. Therefore, it is also important for travelers to understand and help conserve nature, be respectful of the local way of life, and support community products. For more up-close experiences with the abundant nature, travelers can choose to unwind by the Pam River, admire caves in the neighboring area, and enjoy trekking down the nature study trail.v
