Commissioned in 1878 by King Rama V, the Buddhist temple is uniquely built with Gothic Revival architecture resembling a European church. The yellow colored temple became the symbol of modernization of Siam, featuring spires, stained glass panels, tapestry, and a bell tower designed by Italian architect. Build on a river island, the temple can only be reached via cable car over the Chao Phraya River.
