Ban Muang Pon

Ban Muang Pon is a small century-old village in the middle of the valley. No matter how much time may have passed or how fast the world may have evolved, this place still manages to preserve the way of life of Thai Yai people from changing accordingly with external trends. Subsequently, their uniqueness continues to impress travelers as they learn Thai Yai cultures, experience the simple local way of life including how locals plant rice around the house, grow their own vegetables, handcraft numerous items to be used within the family and the community such as Chueak Muak and Thai Yai Clothes.

At traditional festivals, travelers can witness Thai Yai lifestyle as people put on Kup Tai (traditional Thai Yai straw hat) or embroidered blouses with Tai pattern, and sell Aueang Tueng flowers (Dragon-Like Dendrobium). Here, they have an opportunity to try traditional Thai Yai massage, taste Khao Puk (Grilled Sticky Rice And Black Sesame), local desserts, and observe local wisdoms and traditions of Thai Yai villagers at Ban Muang Pon reflected from their daily lifestyle after rice farming. The locals here live such a simple life that it becomes the unique identity of the community. Therefore, travelers who visit and learn these elements will also help motivate the community to keep preserving these precious traditional ways of life and local wisdoms for future generations and build sustainability in this small Thai Yai community amidst Khun Yuam valley.
