Wang Nam Mok Community

For a unique and different experience, Wang Nam Mok Community is a must-visit destination because it has Lanna culture like the north but with a blend of Lan Chang culture of Lao people while situated in Isan Region.

This small community stands at the fringe of Si Chiang Mai District, Nong Khai Province and Chiang Khan District, Loei Province. Upon arrival, travelers will feel a mixed vibe of Chiang Mai’s Lanna culture and Lan Chang culture because this place was once a part of Lan Chang Kingdom and the Lanna culture has long been passed down to the current generation and never faded despite the passage of time. Hence, it allows travelers to learn the culture of the community and try cooking local savories beautifully fused with traditional Lanna culture and Lan Chang Kingdom’s influences, for example, Au Pla Dok Khae (Northern Herbal Fish Sausage Stuffed in Agasta Flowers),  Kaeng No Mai (Spicy Bamboo Shoot Soup), and Tam Sapparot (Spicy Pineapple Salad).

Also, they will closely learn the rare Lanna culture transmitted by children and youth within the community, which helps forge the community’s new generations to love, cherish and preserve these unique cultures and traditions for future generations to come. They can also choose to try          a homestay accommodation living among villagers in the community and join various interesting activities such as weaving fabrics with exclusive local patterns and planting a forest upon Phu Phi Pop Monastery. Near the community, there is also a watershed forest that covers an area of 3,500 rais (5,600,000 sqm) on Phu Phi Pop, Phu Phak Paen and Tat Wang, a small stream that flows from Wang Pha Mok Waterfall, passes a sandstone terrace and gradually forms into a pool inside the community. As a result, a visit to Wang Nam Mok Community is filled with one-of-a-kind experiences that no other places have to offer both in terms of culture and nature.
