Sanctuary for retired, injured, and handicapped elephants. Although seen as the national symbol of Thailand, elephants have long been treated as working animal, often not receiving proper care or habitat to live in. Phuket Elephant Sanctuary aims to provide elephants with safe haven where they can roam around in natural habitat, unchained and without abusive treatment. As a true sanctuary, elephant riding is not allowed, but replaced with more nourishing activities such as feeding and bathing with the elephants.
